How Many Worlds Do YOU Take Up? January 23, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — reabytak @ 4:01 pm

This site is a really awesome site.  If you are on the main page, scroll down and look to the right of the screen.  There will be a link that says “Ecological Footprint”.  Click on that and it will open up the page.  Customize your “person” and then answer the question honestly.  After you are done it will tell you how many worlds it would take if everyone lived like you.  Then you can look and see simple ways to improve the way your living to help the environment.  If everyone lived like me it would take 3.5 worlds.  Looks like I better start “eating less meat and recycle more”.

***If you do this you need to tell me your results, please!***

CONTACTS! January 11, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — reabytak @ 11:16 pm

For Christmas I got contacts and I LOVE THEM!!!    I love not having glasses.   Here’s some things I have forgotten about the joys of not having glasses.

I love opening the dishwasher and not having the steam fog up the lenses

I love walking in the rain without drops falling onto them and having to take them off and not be able to see

I love not getting the imprints on my nose

Now I go to itch my eye and I find myself manuvering my hands so that they would go under that lenses but now I don’t have them so I have to laugh at myself.

Herstory Journal Entry October 25, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — reabytak @ 1:43 am

In class we do an assignment called history/herstory journals.  We did this entry in regards to the Forces of Change.  Here’s my entry.

We have been learning about the forces of change.  One is the force of people.  That include individuals and groups.  One person I affected was Sally Hansen.

It all started out with my fifth grade birthday part.  My friend and I were planning a double party and couldn’t figure out who to invite.  We decided to invite Sally at a last resort.

I had a blast with her!  So a couple of weeks later when I got home from school my mom said she was coming over.  I was kind of upset.  However, we started playing and having fun. We started hanging out more and more.  Finally, we were inseparable.  I started going through a really hard time and we only grew closer.

One time we had three sleepovers in a row.  Another time, we went to her moms school and watched a dance crew and messed around in the classroom.  Another time we and her stepbrother, Matt, stunk up her other brothers room with totally stinky stuff.  We had this weird habit that, before we could go to sleep we had to do push ups and sit ups.

We also loved to prank call 555-5555.  It was an actual number!  We would pretend we were little girls who were trying to find our dads.  Kinda naughty, but oh well.  Toward the spring, we started to get really into dancing.  We danced in my front yard and came up with crazy moves.  We did a dance for the school talent show and got to perform it at Tuachan.  We also went to Zions and went through these really awesome trees.  I haven’t been able to find that place since.

Then summer came and we earned money, from picking weeds and such, to throw a luau party.  We had soo much fun even though we were disappointed by how many people actually showed up.  Then Sally went to Oregon and I went to Washington and we didn’t see much of each other.

When school started we started off fine and were great friends, still just as close. Then Emily Smith, and old friend from first grade who gotpopular, invites me into her group with Jessica.  I was thrilled!  One problem, they hated Sally.  So I did the typical dreaded story. I turned on Sally. I started prank calling her.  I would give her mean mean looks at school.  Meanwhile, we flaunted around like we owned th world.

Soon I started e-mailing her with mean names just to tear her down.  I didn’t care.  I had Emily and Jessica, my best buddies.  A couple of weeks into this and my conscience got to me.  I told my grandmother and showed her all of the e-mails.  Then I sent an apology e-mail to Sally but it was too late.

During the Halloween week I went to Colorado and Jessica  and Emily  spent every minute together.  And there was proof from the mountains of clothes they bought.  I was a little jealous.  Christmas comes and Jessica does somthing totally against my standards so Emily and I are left alone.  We start spending tons and tons of time together.

Them some better friends come around for Emily.  She starts doing the exact same thing I did to Sally.  I was devasted.  She stopped talking to me once and for all and I couldn’t believe it.  No, not about what Emily had done to me.  About what I had done, to Sally.

I looked back through those e-mails and cried and cried and cried and cried.  I couldn’t believe what a self centered, self absorbed, monster I had been to my best friend.  I was ruthless to her.

Needless to say we never talked again.  Everday, I have to look into Sally  and Emily’s  faces knowing what happened.  It’s horrible.

Sally taught me a very important lesson.  The classic story of losing your best friend for a fake friend.  By losing Sally I have remembered to use that in my future friendships in hope that we all won’t do that agin.  Maybe someday I can talk to Sally and say, I’m sorry.

Sorry, I haven’t posted for awhile.   I’ve been doing a lot of school and extra curricular.  I’m going on long bike rides with my friend now and I’m wanting to start learning to play tennis.  I’ve been also been babysiting lots.  Then when it gets time for me to get on the computer I either forget or I’m too lazy, mostly the latter.  I’ve also been doing lots of hiking and I wish I could download the pictures for you.  Anyways….more to follow.

My Opinion On Commercials September 29, 2008

This one was kind of a cold prompt get done in 15 minutes essay.  Most of them are the get done fast ones.  Sorry for that and if it doesn’t make sense, I’m with you.

Cheetos, Cheetos, Pepsi, Pepsi, Lays, Lays, Coke, Coke!  I believe commercials are very effective.  They can get into peoples minds what truly is the best product, even if it isn’t.  First, they make people want it. Second, they make people believe it’s true. Third, they make it look good.

To start, they make people want it.  They photoshop it untils it’s totally unrealistic but dumb people will still believe it.  They show people eating things like they are in the highest degree of heaven.   They put into peoples minds that they can’t live without it.

Second, they make people believe it’s true.  They pay celebrities to tell everyone how ‘awesome’ that product is.  They also get scientist to convince everyone it works.  They get skinny people to say that they lost weight using that new weight loss solution.

Third, they make it look good.  This kind of goes along with making people want it.  They tell what a great steal it is and sends promises of great wealth to anyone who uses that ‘wonderful’ product.  They show kids, grown ups, teenagers, grandparents, you name it, enjoying and loving this product.

Cheetos, Cheetos, Pepsi,  Pepsi, Lays, Lays, Coke, Coke.  In conclusion, I feel like commercials are highly effective.  They can grab people in and make you feel like you HAVE TO HAVE THAT PRODUCT!   First, they hmake people want it, second, they make people people belive what they are saying is true, third, they make it look good.  However effective they are, it doesn’t always mean they are for good.

Do you take Spanish? September 27, 2008

If you are taking Spanish this year then you need to watch this.  It’s hilarious.  You will only laugh if you get 80-90% of the words.  If you don’t take Spanish you probably won’t get it and will think I’m a looney.

New Ideas September 27, 2008

Last year in seventh grade we kept a “journal” and wrote essays and thoughts in it everyday.  So I think that I will post my work.  I think that will be easier for me to write seeing as I just have to copy it and you will get to read more things and get to see my opinions on things.   Hopefully this works out.  Maybe I will throw some random things about my life in there but I don’t know.  For now, vote for Ryan! www.rallyformusic.com

An Important Lesson June 26, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — reabytak @ 12:26 am

Look at those pictures.  Doesn’t that give you a bit more appreciation for what we have.

I just walked a block to the local grocery store carrying baby Ande (20 pounds) on one hip and holding a pound of hamburger in the other hand wearing inch thick flip flops in the hundred degree weather.

BOY WAS I HOT AND TIRED!  I didn’t even go a mile.

It makes me really appreciate all that I have, electricity, AIR CONDITIONING, nice shoes, access to food and water, being able to walk up the street to buy anything I could practically wish for.  I couldn’t imagine being in that world.
I’ve always thought I had an appreciation for them but, Heavenly Father taught me an important lesson today.  There’s no way I could do that, although if it was required of me I’m sure I guess I would.

I’m sure the pioneers had such a sweet and special spirit about them.  I would love to meet one of the Mormon pioneers and learn of their struggles and accomplishments.

I found this really cool website.  From what I saw it’s a virtual pioneer trek and for every 15 minutes of physical activity is one mile.  Then it has a place where you can track your miles and weight.  Then you end up “walking the miles” that they did.  It also has a widget type thing that shows your goal for weight loss and it shows how far you are from you goal.  I think that’s a great way to get in shape.  I’m going to do a little bit of it just to get a taste of what they had to deal with.  However I’m going to do it in the comfort of my home, have a hot shower, and sleep in my soft bed everynight.  So I guess I’m really cheating.

Every time I stop this post to think about what I’m writing I get an overwhelming power of emotions.  I mean honestly…..could you walk that far on rough trails, practically no breaks, not getting food and water right when you want it, no air conditioning, sometimes no shoes, sleeping on rocks, no private toilet (EEK!), dipping in lakes, etc…… My list could go on forever.

However I know that did lots of fun stuff.  They sang songs, played games and was with their family everynight without the hassle of what we have today.  They don’t have to worry about the sin and temptation going on right now.  They also didnt have to worry about getting kidnapped if they went to play in the woods, not that there was any.  Maybe some of them think we have it really rough.

I guess it goes to show us that Heavenly Father knows what time is best for us and what we can handle the best.
