My Family Is Like A Government? February 24, 2009

Herstory Journal Entry for February 2009.  I’m not the best writer but I’m pretty proud of some points in this essay.

The Constitution is an important document laying out the rules for the country.  In some ways a family is like that.  There is the head of government, the parents, and the citizens expected to follow, the children.  There is a set of rules family members are expected to follow just like the rules of the Constitution.

A lot of rules in my family are strictly enforced and monitored to make sure they are followed by my parents.  The punishments vary by age.  Some of the various ones include; extra chores, toys taken away, and being grounded from different electronics.  Sometimes the punishments are unjust but we haven’t established a court system yet.  So we are our own lawyers and usually the parents win.

Giving everyone responsibilities, or jobs, is very important to keep the family moving in  a productive way.  My chores include, dishes, floors, vacuuming, the bathroom,  front room, or making dinner.  Occasionally we have to boost our well being, kind of like an economy.  So we have to do the yard work or deep cleaning.  It takes a lot of hard working keeping up  a house.

I would like to have some amendments made to our family rules. I think chores should be broken up into rooms.  Then, everyone would know what was expected of them and the house would stay clean.  I also think kids should not get grounded from electronics.  Finally, kids should most definitely be responsible for picking up their own stuff.

Being in a family is like a government.  It takes planning, hard work, and responsibility from everyone.
